Master Xue Ping Hu - a modern luthiery legend

Xue Ping Hu has developed into one of the biggest names in the luthiery world. From being a pupil of the Master of China, Quan Zheng, he has opened his own workshop and in recent years received instruction from a renowned French violin maker. You see elements of European style in this instrument, in the Parisian Eyes on the tailpiece and tuning pegs. He understands many expert techniques, blending dark, rich tones with brighter sounds, and has emerged with his own original, impressive style. Xue Ping Hu's violins have a distinct, pliable varnishing. This finish gives his instruments a beautiful look as well as adding to their exceptional sound quality.

Xue Ping Hu's string instruments have gained global recognition. This is apparent in his winning of the Certificate of Merit for Violin Tone at the International Violin Making Competition, as well as Yo-Yo Ma's praise for one of his cellos when he used one to perform.

The refined Master Xue Ping Hu used only the most beautiful materials for this replica. These sophisticated pieces of wood allow the exquisite tone to recreate the Lady Blunt 1721 model. This Stradivarius replica's back has an attractive look, in two pieces of highly figured Maple of narrow curl. A subtle ripple effect is created by these closely spaced curls, which is preferred by professionals. You see the same style of wood in the ribs and scroll, making it work together with a distinct look.

The top of your violin is stunning too. With a table made from evenly grained Spruce, this crucial piece of wood will add to your tone and strength in the best way whilst looking beautiful. With its narrow grain it has an exquisite, consistent appearance. The darker, high-quality tonewood in the shoulder rest, tailpiece, and tuning pegs is a classic touch, ornamented with Parisian eyes on the pegs and tailpiece.

A historically important violin

The Lady Blunt Stradivari is an instrument with a story. Made 300 years ago in Cremona, it was rediscovered after having laid in an attic for decades by the Parisian luthier, Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. The fact this instrument has not been constantly played is a reason for its impeccable condition. It is recognised as one of the Stradivarius violins closest to a near-perfect state, still with unworn traces of Stradivari varnish.

These insights into the past remain also thanks to the most responsible collectors who have looked after this instrument over the years. Vuillaume sold the Stradivari to Lady Anne Blunt, granddaughter of Lord Byron, who enjoyed it for over 30 years. It's from this notable player that this Stradivari violin gets its name.
