Dynamic taming
The FLUX Pure DExpander plugin is designed to enhance the low-level information in an audio signal, making the sound more 'compact'. It's particularly effective as a low-level compressor, able to reduce the dynamic range of softer sounds while leaving louder elements relatively untouched.
For instance, when applied to vocal tracks, the DExpander can increase the density of softer vocals. This helps them sit more solidly in the mix, creating a balanced and cohesive sound. Following this, a conventional compressor can be used to manage the louder sections, ensuring that all elements of the track are well-integrated and harmonious.
Access to a full range of parameters
The FLUX Pure DExpander plug-in offers a range of controls and parameters that go beyond those typically found in a dynamics processor. In addition to standard controls like ratio, attack, and release, the Pure DExpander provides control over the core characteristics of the dynamics processing on each band. This means you have full control over the processing, even in the most demanding of situations.
One significant feature is the extended envelope settings. Here, you have complete control over Attack, Hold, and Release, with Manual, Auto, and Advanced release modes at your disposal. These settings allow you to tailor the response of the plugin to suit the dynamic characteristics of your audio material.
Zero attack time is another feature of the FLUX Pure DExpander. This is achieved by introducing a delay that corresponds to the attack time into the signal path. This ensures immediate response to changes in the input signal, enhancing the precision of the dynamics processing.
The plugin also boasts eight different detection modes. These modes interact with the time and envelope settings as well as the integration times for the RMS detection. Included are unique "Feed Backward" modes, inspired by vintage hardware architectures. These modes contribute to producing a naturally robust and "beefy" sound.
Lastly, there's the Dynamic Factor feature. This amplifies or diminishes the extracted real-time dynamics information. By adjusting this parameter, you can enhance or reduce the impact of the dynamics processing, giving you even more control over the final sound.
Accurate and transparent dynamic impression
Utilising an advanced detection algorithm, Pure DExpander analyses your audio based on the changes in dynamics, rather than the independent level of your signal. This Level Independent Detection (L.I.D) technology opens up your sound and maintains the dynamic impression with real-time processing. As the name suggests, Level Independent Detection is a method for triggering dynamic treatment that doesn't rely on the sound level. The LID looks for variations in sound dynamics, so rather than using a threshold to determine the high from the low level, it looks at the changes in levels from the lower levels before processing. The result is a much more accurate and transparent form of dynamic control that isn't relying on the level, meaning input and output gain stages can be adjusted with no perceivable changes in tone.
Stereo control and enhancement
With multichannel and surround format supports, DExpander can be used to process up to 16 channels simultaneously, and independently in grouped matrix routings. This control provides effortless dynamic enhancement across all channels in a complex surround mix. Alternatively, DExpander features M/S capabilities with onboard encoders and decoders to split your signal into the appropriate mid and side information. The MS Width control dial sets the stereo width of the processed signal with a -6dB signal decreasing stereo width and a +6dB value increasing the mid/side split in your signal.
The MS Mode Control – Enables one MS encoding matrix at the input and one MS decoding matrix at the output of the dynamic processing to control the stereo width of the mix. When engaged, the side chain is fed by an MS-encoded signal that is reflected in the display section. M channel corresponds to the normal left channel. And the S channel corresponds to the normal right channel.
