Centuries of culture at your fingertips
Traditional, acoustic wakaido drums can be both cumbersome and difficult to amplify, particularly given the dynamic, performative nature of Taiko. Thanks to Roland's onboard digital audio engine, the TAIKO-1 contains the full range of differently sized Taiko drums, and more besides, all available at the touch of a button.
From the small 'shime' model, right through to the giant 'odaiko', every Taiko timbre you could desire is in your hands and ready to go. And that's not all - a variety of varying bachi (stick) variations, small traditional cymbals known as chappa, and hyoshigi wood block sounds are included too, along with layered samples for a full drumline effect, and even vocal shouts and calls to complete the full Taiko experience. Or to mix things up, why not upload your own samples via the handy USB socket?
Go wireless
The Roland TAIKO-1's wireless capabilities make it ideal for modern performances of this ancient art. When seated, or rehearsing at home, the included power supply allows endless hours of percussive practise.
When performing on stage, or in crowded areas, the TAIKO-1 can be powered using eight AA rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, which offer up to five hours of flawless sound. To reduce onstage cabling even further, why not combine the TAIKO-1 with a high quality wireless system (sold separately) for a completely self-contained, convenient, and safe performance.
Form, function, and feel
The TAIKO-1's ergonomic, over-the-shoulder design is inspired by the mid-sized katsugi okedo daiko drum. But thanks to its easy-assemble construction and super light, 4.5kg weight, the TAIKO-1 is ideal for taking to rehearsals on public transport, or in the car, while taking up the minimum of space.
Roland's industry-leading positional sensing technology means the drum reacts to your stick is exactly the same way as an acoustic drum, with the tibre changing as you move from the centre of the head to the edge. Not only that, the TAIKO-1's rim sensors allow you to play the its body just as you would a real drum
Easy, quiet home practise
Its dual-zone, mesh drum heads provide the familiar, natural feel of real Taiko drum skins, while producing minimal acoustic noise themselves when struck. This makes the TAIKO-1 perfect for home rehearsal. Simply plug a pair of headphones in and enjoy full-bodied, organic drum sounds that react in a completely natural way, without disturbing the neighbours!
