The parlour shape was originally designed to be small and comfortable enough to play sat down. Today, the parlour shape covers a wide spectrum of guitars, from traditional western styles to electro-acoustic one-of-a-kind boutique builds. The name refers to old reception function rooms, this is where these guitars first started being played, they have now been labelled parlour because of the types of venues they originally were played in. This parlour guitar is smaller than a concert shaped guitar, and features an elongated body, providing an increased volume despite its small size. The parlour shape ensures a comfortable playing experience, especially for smaller framed people due to its delicate curved structure and slim waist.
Built with a mahogany top and body, and a rosewood fingerboard, players can achieve a variety of tones. Mahogany delivers a warm, bright midi-range, and a thick well defined tone perfect for many playing styles. Mahogany is used a lot in the acoustic world, as it is relatively economical, durable, attractive, easy to work with, and resonant.
The mahogany neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard, that delivers a warm, bright, and sparkly tone that really shines through when using finger picking techniques. The reason why many guitar necks are made from mahogany is because the wood responds greatly to picking, strumming, and various finger techniques with equal ease. With a natural satin finish, rosewood fingerboard, and white dot inlays, players can enjoy smooth playability.
The Tanglewood Premier Historic Parlour uses an on-board Fishman preamp, allowing you to plug into an amplifier for added volume. The preamp also features volume control, tone shaping, and phase control, for the perfect sound.
