L.R. Baggs VTC Pickup

The Gibson Songwriter Studio comes equipped with the popular VTC pickup from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle pickup that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an unobtrusive and removable volume/tone control mounted just within the soundhole, the VTC and the Songwriter together provide the idyllic setup for the professional musician. The VTC features rotary controls for both volume and tone shaping, and is designed to project the rich sonic character that you'd expect from a mic'd up performance in a studio environment.

Quality Sitka Spruce & Rosewood Construction

The Gibson Songwriter Studio features a sitka spruce top that produces a broad dynamic range and yields crisp articulation. Its sitka spruce soundboard also delivers a sparkling high response and tight, clear attack, perfect for pronounced players. Spruce is the most commonly used timber for guitar tops as it generates a versatile sound and accommodates numerous playing styles, from aggressive to fingerpicking. The brightly toned sitka spruce top is coupled with rosewood back and sides, which projects a strong clear, low-end and a rich and sparkly high-end blended with superb resonance. Furthermore, rosewood is often considered the number one choice for acoustic guitars due to its unique sound qualities and striking dark, rich shade.

Mahogany Neck & Rosewood Fingerboard

Constructed from mahogany, the Songwriter's neck offers durability and supreme resonance. Mahogany also responds incredibly well to picking, strumming, and various finger techniques with equal ease. To provide a smooth and comfortable play, the neck has a rounded profile, offering comfort through-out each performance. The neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard which produces a sonic warmth, blended with a bright sizzling-sparkle that really shines through when using fingerpicking techniques. Its rosewood fingerboard provides players with a smooth and energetic playing experience and is sprinkled with split parallelogram inlays for added elegance.

Square Shoulder Dreadnought Cutaway

The Gibson Songwriter Studio features a square shoulder dreadnought cutaway body shape which projects a voice that will reach the back of the room within most venues, offering superb acoustic projection whilst maintaining overall tonal balance. The square shoulder dreadnought has been in a debate with its round shoulder dreadnought cousin for years. After many comparisons of sound and appearance between the two, the square shoulders not only offer a pleasing aesthetic but produces a 'boomy' voice with a little more volume than a round shoulder. The dreadnought body is designed for a player that can handle its size whilst still feeling comfortable when playing, ideal for those with a longer reach and more comfortable with bigger guitar body shapes. This stunning square shoulder dreadnought also features a venetian cutaway, making it easier for players to reach more challenging chords.

Venetian Cutaway

The Venetian Cutaway is renowned for its soft, round lines, creating a visually stunning look that is instantly recognisable. This type of cutaway allows easier access to the upper frets for a comfortable play, and enables you with more freedom across the fingerboard.

Traditional Hand Scalloped X-Bracing

As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the Songwriter Studio features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard. This technique not only enhances the guitar's sound, offers a well-balanced tone, superb projection and clarity, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
